I couldn't help but notice that the "Introductions" forum on this site is, well, fairly left alone. There are more introductory posts without responses or "welcome!" messages than there aren't.
Any of you guys (or gals!!) that have been here for a bit... do you remember if anyone responded to your "Hello!" post? Or did you not make one?

I just joined today so I haven't looked to see if anyone has replied to my introduction thread. I usually like to say hi to those who join after I do and sometime will reply to a few who have joined before me. I think it's a nice way to make everyone feel at home in a new forum.

I've noticed that also. I've had 4 views, but no responses. It doesn't bother me.

In many forums that I've joined prior to this, it was the same way. There has been maybe one or two exceptions.

That's a good idea though beccasthoughts. I should respond to other introductions to let them know that at least someone here has read their "hello."

It really is a good way to keep a community feeling open and friendly. It's also a good show of sustained membership, letting other people know that long-time users are still around!

i've only just entered these walls yesterday, but i used someone else's thread.
i personally think it should be a thread, not a forum with two thousand "hi i'm new" threads.

how many times can you say welcome to the forum?
at least in a thread, you can say "welcome new members" or "welcome to the board, james334, firebitch, and excelsior"

in a howdy forum, threads are going to move rapidly off the page.

IMO

Heh. Just posted on that thread. It is ideal to have a thread for your first post though. Cliched but good.

I rarely make an introduction post for that very reason. I usually scope out a forum and if the intros are actually getting attention, then I do, but otherwise, I'd rather people get to know me across the rest of the forum than waste my time with an intro that people will either not even read or will forget shortly.
