Myspace Advertising

With myspace being one of the largest sites currently in existance; with a large database of members. It was only to be expected that eventually website and forum owners would be able to use the service for advertisement purposes. Bands on myspace do a similar thing.

I have never tried it myself but friends of mine have told me that it gets them a steady stream of hits; more than you would think.

They do this first by adding their own friends, then adding more and more people who have similar interests on myspace. It is ok to add strangers; as that is the whole point of myspace.

I do not understand the advertising scheme with myspace. You're there to have fun and the ads to me are a turn off.

I have heard this is a successful way of getting exposure and have also learned that people sell My Space accounts. I learned this is illegal.

I don't get the whole "selling" My Space account thing. They are free and easy to create. Embarassed

I have a MySpace account which I use to advertise and network. So far, the advertising is going kind of slow. I know for a fact that it takes a lot of dedication and time to even remotely advertize unless you have enough money to post your banner at the top. I think that would be the only real effective form of advertising on MySpace.

I think usuing social networking sites such as myspace e.t.c to advertise on directly is not a good idea. People are becoming aware of this exploitation and don't take to kindly to it. I have many friends whose accounts have been hacked, then the hackers post spam advertisments under their username. Very annoying for members and it's becoming a problem and ruining the site i think. However you can use it as a tool to promote yourself, without irritating others. E.g if you are a band, telling people about your gig dates, starting up a group e.t.c

I have heard many website owners tell me that myspace is a good source of incoming traffic. They use a means of freelance work to get someone to gather them a gigantic friend list, then they just spam their URL in bulletins and messages. Seems like a pretty sleezy way of getting traffic to me. I certainly get annoyed enough by my email spam, and don't need the added myspace spam to go along with it.

The website that I co-administrate has a myspace account, although we didn't create it primarily for advertising the site. We started off by simply friending the myspace accounts of our members, as a way of keeping in touch with them.

On myspace, you can post bulletins and blogs, which we do frequently to let members know what is going on at the website (useful if they haven't visited in a while). The way I see it is if having the myspace there attracts some new users, then great.

I'd never spam anyone's comments page with advertisements for the site though - that's just bad netiquette.

I had a personal myspace account before I started my website and forum. But I created a special one that coordinated with my site and even bought friend adding software to automate the demographic that would be interested in my site. I can add tons of friends, alot will decline because they don't want to be part of an advertising scheme.

Even out of those who accept I haven't seen much traffic come out of this. And I've even had a problem with people spamming my myspace page. I think my time could be spent better elsewhere.

Funny because I know a number of people who are running their own business through myspace. ITs an area where the sky is the limit. Its like having a room full of people from all over the world and being able to showcase what you are trying to offer. The word networking is most popular in the marketing business.

Hi, I have not yet tried to advertise on Myspace but anyone who has got some knowledge on the internet should obviously know that there is a big potential of getting or recruiting a lot of people there.With millions of users, surely there are many who are looking for something we can propose them...
I did not try your friend`s method but I think he is getting some more customers for his biz on Myspace!
