I love to post on forums whether I am being paid or not. As a stay at home mom I find it to be one of my only connections to the outside world. I also find that I have founds some geat resources. My daughter was a preemie and I have been lucky enough to find a board of parents that all have the same concerns about their premature children. I also enjoy the boards that I just get to kick back relax and talk about me for a bit. So what are your favorite things about these forums???

| I think these boards have some valuable information as well as resources. These boards have introduced me to the life of a WAHM and have also helped me to stay a WAHM. If you are down about something or have come across a problem, just post away and believe me someone will try to help you out and furthermore, someone has gone through the same thing. I love all of these boards. You get to find out about those who have had a bad experience with so and so company as well as those who are trying to scam people. I always try to give back to the forums, because when I need help there is always a member to help me out. I will continue to support these forums and to post on these forums, whether I am being paid or not. |

Hello there,
I love posting on boards because it gives you the opportunity to connect with people from across the country or across the world that you would not have normally met. It's nice to see that people from different areas have the same interests or problems that you have. And it's a wonderful way to enlarge your own personal support network.

My primary use of forums is to exchange information.
I will Google a subject and look for discussion board posts regarding that subject just so I can read a variety of opinions on the subject.
I will also read forum topics that interest me but which I am not knowledgeable about and ask questions in the threads. This helps me to learn something new each and every day!
If I need help with something I often search forums. Sometimes I find an existing thread which contains the information I need and sometimes I can't find what I'm looking for so I make a new thread. It's a really good feeling to connect with new people who have interests similar to mine! |

I started posting on our High School Alumni Forum. I was one of the few who started it out. There were only 10 of us then, yet it looked like there was a bunch of us because before you can finish your post somebody else had posted his/her reply. Just like any other Alumni Forum sites, our main purpose was to reunite classmates from all over the world. I admit, I had doubts in mind at first if we'll ever achieve our goal. But as days went by, I was able to connect with my H.S. buddies from different provinces in our country and to the rest of the world. I even got a call directly from UK thru the forum. I didn't realize the efforts we've put in have started to be fruitful. Now, we're closer to a thousand active forum members. To date, I still got hooked to it.
My purpose then was mainly to catch up with my friends from the different parts of the globe. Now, I'm reaping a lot of benefits from it. I don't just connect with old friends, I also make new ones. Having gathered a good number of valuable information, I can't afford not to visit the sites of which I am a member even when my hands are full. |

For me, posting on forums is a great way to get to know people. All of us have our own way of looking at things - even the things we agree on! I think it is great fun to learn what other people think and how they came to their understandings. You never know when someone will share a perspective that makes a difference in how you view things. _________________ Mike Tatum

I'm actually getting more benefits from it than I originally thought I would.
Learning a lot more and looking at subjects that I didn't really think would interest me, but do, is probably one of the greatest.
But I have also found that my own writing has improved.
The boards are providing a much needed distraction, so I am finding that when I return to my stories I feel more refreshed and able to move them along better.
A bit like writing with the TV on I suppose. |

I discovered forums when I was pregnant with my daughter, after having two miscarriages. I didn't know a thing about the Internet back then (8 years ago), and it was the ugliest site you've ever seen. I was truly amazed, though, that there were people out there that were having the same fears as me.
I think people discuss things in online forums that they often wouldn't with their own friends and family. For some strange reason, miscarriage is one of those things that people don't talk about. I guess if you haven't been through it, you're afraid you'll say the wrong thing--and if you have, maybe you just want to forget it ever happened.
I made great friends for those many months, and I cried for people I had never met. I learned "the lingo" (another trend in online communities; it's fun to be "in the know"), and I felt a connection to people that I never would have spoken to if I'd seen them on the street.
It made me realize that we're out there all the time, not connecting, and a silly little thing like a computer can actually make people connect in an important way. Who knew? (Of course, now everyone knows--but I get a bit of satisfaction feeling like I was one of the first!)

I enjoy socializing and making new friends. I love a good discussion. I've been on the internet before there was a WWW, and am a veteran of many bulletin boards. Hands up how many people know what AOL and Compuserve looked like in DOS. |

My first encounter of forum is posting on our alumni forum site. I do really love posting again and again after i realized that through that site, I will be able to have contact with my old friends and schoolmates again. Now, not only having been able to bond with my old buddy is the benefits forum is providing me, it also becomes my way to meet new sets of friends and my source of the information I need since all kinds of ideas and thoughts are flowing in it. _________________ "The most difficult lesson to learn is:

What I like about communication on forums? (Or is it fora ? )
It immediately puts you in touch with a lot of other people, something that you would not find immediately within your own physical community.
It's easy to find other people who want to discuss the same thing.
There is no worry about "peceptual baggage", ie: you don't have to worry about how you look.
People can't interrupt one another. The person with the loudest voice does not dominate the conversation. Everyone gets their say.
Well, these are just some of the great things about forums! |
