I would love to hear all your views on SAHM/SAHD, do you think parents that stay at home to raise their kids work harder than those who go out to work full time outside the home or is the work load equal ?
I am a SAHM and I honestly believe that both jobs are stressful and tiresome however staying at home has less benefits even though the reward of seeing your child grow are fantastic. |

I read somewhere that SAHM work the equivelent of 91 hours per week. I believe it! I thinking staying home is just as tiring as working, although we do get to take a break without a boss over our shoulders. I used to work and i miss the paycheck, but I love seeing my children grow up and don't miss the work itself. |

If those 91 hours per week are true, then what about mothers who have a part time job elsewhere and stay at home the rest of the time?????
There was a time - in the seventies and part of the eighties - that women were supposed to leave the house and get a job, no matter what! If they were lucky, they had a partner who shared the chores around the house.
Nowadays, many women feel the need to work in a job because of the bills piling up. Every $100 comes in handy, right? If you have the choice to stay at home as a mom, and you feel fullfilled by that, then please, do so... Yes, raising kids is tiring, so as long as you feel that way and there is no reason to find a job, enjoy your tiring daily work!
If however, you find yourself in the tredmill of those 90 hours, then you should think of a more fullfilling solution, including daycare centers or whatever is available in your town or city. |

| Something that has always irritated me is whenever someone who goes out to a job instead of working at home comes home, and makes a comment like oh sorry I'm tired I worked all day. The people who stay at home work just as much if not more in reality. Not only do they end up doing household chores, but if they have a side job it really tends to be alot more work getting done then if you actually went out to a job itself. |

| I have been a working mother and a SAHM, and am now becoming a WAHM. I believe that a SAHM's job is extremely tough because not only are you working just as hard as someone in the workplace, but you're also taking care of little ones! All for little to no gratitude. It takes a very special kind of person to be able to do that IMO. |

Stay-at-home-parenting is tough. It's around the clock, challenging, emotionally, physically, mentally exhausting, you rarely get breaks, and my baby is crawling all over me as I'm typing this.
Having said that...
It is completely different than going out to work at a paid job and I avoid comparing the two. They are both very important and necessary in the running of a family. Both parents need to value their work and their role in the family -- whether it be bringing home the bacon or childrearing. I wouldn't want to say one works harder than the other as I would hope that both parties work hard at whatever their job is while appreciating what they, and the other, contributes.
As for being beneficial, I find stay-at-home-'mom'ing very beneficial so I'll have to disagree with you there. |

| At eh moment I am a SAHM. I have been off work now for 4 months. To tell you the truth its a little bit boring to be at home all day. I feel more fulfilled in my life when I have a job to go to. Although its great to spend all that time with my daughter, I need the extra stimulation that going to work gives me. On the whole I would say, for me , its better to work outside the home. |
