What sort of forums does everyone have out there? Which ones drive the most traffic, and how did you come up with your forum topic or idea?

I personally love current event, travel, pop culture, and science forums. Oh, and fashion, forums, too.

I don't think there is one "magic forum" which will guarantee you a popular forum. I think the best way to figure out what sort of forum to start is to figure out what interests 'you' and then create a forum on that. If you like it, chances are more people are going to pick up on your passion then if you just picked something for its profitability.

A forum's appeal really depends on my mood.

By the end of the week I want to relax, so I cruise celebrity gossip forums. I especially enjoy those with weekly themes like "worst celebrity plastic surgery". Everyone gets involved and some of the pictures that are posted crack me up!

I have a parenting forum which is still quite new and the reason behind it really was a personal interest and something close to my heart.

Cooking forums are great. Especially with the recent explosion of "Food Network" celebrity chefs. Everyone wants to be the next great chef. I see this avenue as a great way to grab some traffic and generate ad-income.

I completely agree with this. With the multitude of forums out there, I can't think of any one topic or theme that stands out among the others. A forum requires a lot of time and dedication to operate successfully, so it should be something that you the owner and operator enjoys. Be aware though that it is getting harder and harder to keep a large member base and busy posting in forums, due in large part to the vast numbers of forums in existence. That's why something like Forumbooster exists. I've operated a few forums and I wouldn't start another one unless I already had a large base of regular posters interested in a new forum.

I personally tend to go for forums that are centered around writing or group roleplay (collaborative writing), because those are my interests. I also like forums that involve dreams.

See how different that is from everyone else's post? I suppose this is my own, roundabout way of saying you can't get everybody in just one forum- it would be crazy to try. Instead, try to work with a forum you wouldn't mind running (but that also would have a reasonable audience if marketed correctly). For example, something broad like travel might be a good idea, as would be parenting tips or cooking, as have been mentioned.
