Hi
Newbie here. How are you defining forum, and how does a forum differ from a blog? Isn't a blog a forum for the blogger's ideas? |

| Traditionally, a forum is any place where thoughts and ideas could be shared out in the open. In the context of the internet, a forum is a website like this using specific software like vbulletin, phpbb, invision, etc to allow for the posting of comments in "threads" like the one you just started. You are posting in a forum right now. |

| I am not an expert at technology; so I won't be able to speak on software. But since I love using forums, I can make an attempt to define a forum. A forum is a common platform where several people meet and discuss an issue of common interest. A forum enables you to meet new people, enhance your knowledge, and share what you know. And a forum is fun. What I am doing right now is posting at a forum. |

Forum-
An online discussion group, where participants with common interests can exchange open messages
Blog-
A blog (short for "web log") is essentially an online journal or diary where one can post messages, photos, music and video on their own mini website.
The difference between the two lies in the level of interactivity. In a forum, all members are allowed to write their personal views and topics. In blogs, instead, usually only a blogger writes and people can simply comment on his "posts". |

| I think of a forum as a place where people can meet others who share the same interests. Forums are different from blogs because everyone is of equal standing. |

| Staring forum is kind of interesting. I am so interested to start a literature and poetry forum. Getting it up and running would be a delightful experience. |

Firstly I think title doesn't match the question OP has put up.
Anyhow I shall try and answer both
Starting forum is easy these days. You need following:
1) Good Idea/topic
2) Good domain that goes well with your idea
3) Webhosting (Many webhosting companies these days offers some of the free forum softwares like phpbb and others.)
4) Forum software.
Now gel the above items and you have a forum. Simple task, isn't it?
Blogs and forums are different. Generally blog is about one person and his thoughts while forum is for everyone and their thoughts. That's the very fundamental difference. |
