Getting visitors to your web site is not one of the easiest
things to do especially if you've only just set up your web
site. The trick here is to find as many ways as possible to
get the visitors, that do visit your site, to come back
again and again.

Here are 8 ways you can achieve this:

1. Start a blog

Yes, everyone else, including my grandmother, has a blog. You should start one too. A blog is a great way to get your visitors to return to your web site. Especially if you
frequently update it with entries that are relevant to your visitors' needs. And also that occasional odd entry on what's happening in your personal life. A blog can greatly
increase the personal touch of your web site. And your visitors are more likely to come back.

2. Start a forum

An active discussion forum may be all that you need to attract repeat visitors to your web site. You'll generally get two types of visitors to your active forum. a) One who
seeks help and one who provides help. If your forum is active with these two types of visitors, you can almost guarantee repeat (as well as new) visits for many times to
come.

3. Provide a free useful tool

Every one loves free stuffs. Try and provide a free online tool, that's hosted on your web site of course. If your tool is very useful to your visitors, they will come again and
again to use this tool. Example of tools include a banner creator, web site popularity checker, or html generator etc.

4. Free Stuff

Don't just stop there. People really love to get free stuff.List free stuff on your web site. It could be software, services, sample products, e-books etc. The freebies should
be related to your web site topic. Keep the freebies coming and your visitors will return regulary. You could maybe add a monthly freebie to your site.

5. Encourage feedback

Have a section on your web site or open a forum especially for visitor and subscriber feedback. You could write a small line at the bottom of the articles on your page to invite
readers to leave feedback about the article. Or get your subscribers to leave feedback on your ezine topic for that month. Make sure you reply to their feedback. Not only will
this increase repeat visitors to your site, but you'll also have happy subscribers.

6. Publish an online version of your ezine

Though email ezines are popular and wide spread, you should also publish an online version of your ezine at your web site. There are bound to be some subscribers who would prefer the online version. This would bring them back to your web site.

7. Original Content

This is by far the best way to get your visitors to come back for more. Give your visitors content they can't read anywhere else. I'm not saying all your content has to be
100% original, but a portion of your web site should have original information. People will usually read information they haven't read before.

8. Prize Drawings

Hold an ongoing prize drawing on your web site. The prizes should be something of interest or value to your subscribers. Most people who enter will continually revisit
your web site to get the results.

There you go. 8 ways to get your web site visitors coming
back for more./[b]

yeah nice tips. We can also buy some cheap traffics for our site. I see a site which is paying 0.01$ per post and having lots of people contineously posting. i think 1$ for 100 post is not a big amount.

I think that these a great points for a certain type of website. if your goal is to support professional activities free-stuff and people making the usual chatty and somewhat bizarre posts that they tend to may not be what you are after. It pays to remeber why you want people on the site and why you want them to come back--what impression you want to give.

I think the competition idea (prize drawing) is an excellent idea. Seems to be a very popular way for website ownners to get traffic to their sites. It's a shame that google adwords is so expensive, as you can really get some good targeted traffic from them. Sad

Another good idea to get traffic is to list your website in all the free directories you can find.

Nice tips.

I tried competitions on my site - they worked as a short term increase in traffic, but only if the competition was really easy. For a fairly large prize ($250 value) I made the competition require some effort to enter, and got less than a quater of the entrants I did for a competition that had a $50 value.

I think thats rather strange, personally.

There is some great tips there espcially for a new website/forum starting out.

Another tip which I think has helped me personally is lots of multi media like photos & video clips.

I found that people enjoy watching the video clips and always come back to watch the latest ones, this has been my personal experience.

Word of mouth is also awesome - especially if a popular blog or a popular larger site that deals with the same kind of content can be persuaded to plug you!

I definitely agree with the point about a free tool. I have a cookery website, and I have included a metric-imperial converter for weights and volumes. Most of the repeat visits I get are directly to that page. Incorporating some kind of useful tool into your website is great, but make sure it's relevant otherwise people are unlikely to use it.

Thanks for the tips, I can agree with a lot of the ideas. People love free stuff and games to play as well. That has been something on my website that I have seen a lot of success with.

Very nice tips there. Another good one is to provide eye candy. A good design will keep visitors looking at the page longer, which could result in a purchase or more ad revenue.

Good tips, but don't you run the risk of cluttering up the site if you add too many bells and whistles? Everything you do should support the overall theme of the forum, correct? So if your website is a political forum, you wouldn't want to add free ringtone downloads or games just to add more appeal.

These are all really thoughtful ideas! I have an indie music review blog and while people who read it say they enjoy it, GETTING people to that initial read is a daunting prospect. Mabey if I offered a free underground sticker or something to each guest who comments it would generate some buzz. Thanks for the brainstorm, it really does help. Very Happy

I think you forgot the most obvious point-to get the site registered with a search engine and SEO keyword optimisation.Without getting registred with Google or any major search engine and placing ads with them, you'll get quite low visits.google adwords is the nest possible way to get traffic
And yes, your other programs are also good enough to get some people interested in the site.I do think I have seen the same post on another forum.I bet you are posting the same topic on different websites.
Good advertisement..

Tricking people onto your website won't work. The blogging idea is great, because it provides content that changes regularly, which Google will also like.
The trick is to provide something new and amazing, that people will start to rely upon. Suddenly, you have a profitable winner Wink

Yes, a forum will encourage visitors to revisit but within that I always found it necessary to send a regular newsletter to all members, and try to ensure that each by the time newsletter was due we'd done something new (ie, new videos section, an interview with a particular actress etc). Competitions were also big visitor-winners.

With forum members - once you've got them back to your website, you'll usually keep them for a little while at the very least. They'll be reading all of the interesting threads they've missed!

I think that's a really sweet summary of how to bring back your members/visitors. I am sure that if someone takes enough care to see that all the above things are done in right manner, his forum would definitely be a big hit.
