You need to adopt multiple strategies to promote a website. First, create a blog, submit it to search engines, place an ad in free classifieds, paid to click, postings in the forums and blogs, participating in discussions, submit to article directories, swap links with web masters, enter into joint ventures, give some free stuff like useful articles in PDF format. All these efforts would supplement your efforts to garner traffic to your site.

But, you need to update your blogs very often with quality content useful to the visitor.
Finally, you need to have a postive attitude to whatever you do and hope for the best.

I would just like to emphasize how important it is to keep your blog updated and stay on topic! When a users visits your site, and they see that you have not updated your blog in over a year, they loose interest very quickly. It is best to have a team of "bloggers", so that if an individual is not able to post for a few days, someone else can keep the site updated.

I also agree that it is important to sign up for an ad service, such a Google Ad-Sense. It will really help your relevancy increase on search engines.
