There was a post in the Free Web Hosting forum that recommended making sure that your hosts had good stuff like cPanel and Fantastico and PHP. In my experience all that stuff usually comes for a price, so I thought I'd post this topic here instead:

What web hosts do y'all recommend?

I've only ever gone with one web host, DrakNet, so they're the only ones I know enough to recommend. I have several domains with them. They offer all the things that the other post I was refering to said you ought to make sure you get: cPanel interface for administration, Fantastico to install all sorts of things, Soholaunch ditto, PHP, MySQL, etc. Apparently they're one of only a very few companies that make all of Soholaunch's module's available for free with your domain hosting package, rather than offering some of them at an upcharge.

I don't know exactly what that means simply because I've never actually used any Soholaunch modules. But I am assured that this is a good thing.

Anyone else happy with their web host and want to share?

That would be me that posted that.

I would personally recommend any website that offers PHP, MYSQL, Fantastico, FTP, and other useful things. You should also make sure that the host you are choosing has good feedback. I use BlueHost but the choice is really up to you, There are too many hosting companies out there to recommend you one.

I actually use DreamHost for my blog. They are a cool bunch of guys: always fun loving, and don't hesitate to see the bright side of anything bad that happens, like recently when they had to start accepting CVV numbers for credit cards.

The company itself offers 20 GB of space, 1 TB of bandwidth per month, both of which grows at 160 MB and 8 GB respectively. CGI and PHP both run from any of the web directories provided they are given the proper permissions. They also support Ruby on Rails, but I don't care much about this, since I don't really know what this is. Their control panel is very easy to use: I could manage my domains even without knowing much about DNS.

I have a discount coupon if you guys would like to pay less. Very Happy

http://www.webhostingamerica.us/ is my favorite. They support most of the popular features and the best customer support I have ever encountered. They are also very fast and reliable. I have been using them for 3 years.

4ph.com

By far, the best host I have ever used.

At $25 a month for a basic package, there more expensive than some, BUT they offer 24/7 live support. This has saved me more times than I can count.

They also allow you to host unlimted domains... big factor for people who own wacks of them like myself.

I use bluerazor.com. I thought I had a really good deal, until I saw the dreamhost package!! WOW, that is an impressive service.

I am however going to stick to my hosting service for the following reasons.

I am happy with their service

They provide a proxy service for a nominal fee of around $2ish, therefore when someone does a WHOIS on your domain your home address is not revealed to all, they are still reasonable prices and I have a sufficient 10gb and 500gb bandwidth for $5.95 a month.[/list]

I run two websites actually.

I am a graphic artist so I run a website for my portfolio, and online business. I've been using IX Web Hosting for the past three years or so with no problems. I don't get much traffic to that website though outside of potential employers and a few loyal clients so I've never had to contact customer service or anything, but never noticed any down time. They give you a pretty hefty amount of space too.

I also run an online forum, which I use A Small Orange for. I've been with them now for about a month. I did some research on who to use for a forum before going with them. They're a bit costly compared to some of the other options I was looking into, but I heard many great things and have already contacted their customer service department via email a few times and received responses within 30 minutes to an hour answering my questions, and that was on the weekend.

I have used a bunch of web hosts. Probably one I wouldn't go for is IPB's hosting. They have good software but the hosting is terrible.

I'm a GoDaddy lover, sorry to say but all of my websites have been hosted through them. I love the fact that I can call their customer service 24 hours a day whenever I need them. It can't get any better than that.

Dream host is a very good host with a set up fee of like sixty dollars and a eleven dollar a month fee with over 5600 gbs of space which grows weekly. Worth it if you have more then one website and forum.

I've had a great experience with HostMonster.

The servers are quite fast and I haven't had any downtime. Also, they're current on everything with PHP and MySql, and all their CPanel buttons actually work.

I just switched to HostGator. I've experienced a few problems but they were resolved really quickly.

DreamHost, Hostgator, Monsterhost, they all suck big time.
They are to cheap and to slow. And its hard to get good support.

I am not going to spam here.
