We have been running google.com ads on our forum and have been getting good results, if we can keep the forum growing the income from the ads should be good. I am also interested in other ideas as banner ads and affiliate programs.
Let me know what you have found successful.

Google adsense is a very relible resource of course
But sometimes also a good community will suport it self.
Get a good fanbase wich love thier forum and skip all the massive ad placement.
Than try to relie on small but accurate advertising and maybe some donations |

Yes once you get a critical mass, the post counts are largely self-maintaining. People are creatures of habit, once they get used to posting there, they'll tell their friends, and then their friends will post and pretty soon you'll get a good userbase |

My question is, how do you built that community?
I am sure it varies from subject to subject, but there are so many hundreds if not thousands of forums out there with the same subject as yours.
What do you do to get the attention in the midst of a forest of forums?
What sort of adds tdo you put out and how to you grab and keep an active community? |

| Well, Google ads are good options but you can find other many sites which offer contextual ads. Dont just depend on Adsense. If you have a large community then you can sell ads directly too |

Some friends made some money with shareapic [dot] net
It's an image uploading network pays you 0.22 cents per 1000 images views.
1000 image views not a huge number. You can make it easily if your forums are active.
You can use your referrer link and mail it your members to join and to upload images on Shareapic.
One of my friends makes 20 dollars with Shareapic every week
With 39 active referred users.
Give it a try and don't forget to tell us how much you made with it. |

| I would have to say that if you have a big forum, I would not only use Adsense, but I would also sell text links on your forum. Text links can add a ton of income onto your site within just a couple of weeks. If you have over 60,000 members, and around 350,000 posts, you can price them for about $30/Month, and people will pay you. Advertisers are always looking for ways to excel their site faster and better then ever, and you might be that opportunity for them to do so... Just think $30/Month x 20 text links = $600 in free, disposable income! |

Google is an easy, quick way to monetize your site. Perhaps mix it with some paid contextual links - like Kontera.com or textlinkbrokers.com??
Another option is paid banner ads. I have a couple on my site that pay via Paypal monthly whether you have visitors or not. Nice easy extra dollars are always good
