There are a lot of thoughts on how to succeed in business. First, you start with a well written business plan. You follow that with some money for retail space, overhead and advertising. Add in a few employees and you're set!
Most area businesses around my home have come and gone within 6 months. And what is the most common reason they didn't succeed?
1. Advertising. If you're looking to kill your business, don't advertise! Don't send out flyers, offer coupons, or tell everyone you meet about your business. Forget about brochures, conventions, fairs, markets, or business cards.
2. Planning. Here's another business killer. Take a look around you. What have you got for competition? The last thing you want to do is open a small "mom and pop" store next to a monster corporation that can offer more selection and cheaper prices.
3. Customer Service. This one will REALLY kill your business! When a customer walks in, ignore them. Talk on the phone, or better yet, to another employee. Don't worry about what they're looking for, or what they need.

In all honesty, the biggest thing I think you can do to help your business of any size succeed is customer service. When you give someone higher than expected service, that's something they'll remember! And the next time someone asks them where they should shop for this, or that, I promise they'll remember you! _________________ -------
