In the course of your life, how much money do you waste or consider wasted?

I dont think that money is that important, if you are happy with your standard of living then that should be enough. I get sick and tired of the people that chase money and hold it almost as dear to them as friends and family.

I waste alot of the money I have on meaningless things, but those things bring me comfort and so become things of meaning.

How well do you spend your money and how important is it to you? Do you do anything specific to make it or do you cruise through life happy with what you have?

If the things that you spend your money on have meaning to you, how can they be meaningless things?

I think that both the idea of meaningless purchases and the compulsion to get as much money as possible are part of a very common unhealthy relationship with money. I think most of us don't grow up with any idea about what we really want money to mean to us and in our lives, and it's very hard for people to figure it out as adults. I'm still trying to figure it out myself!

My biggest new project with "doing specific things to make money" is that I want to get a calendar where I keep track of how much money I need for different things at different points, and at the beginning of each week draw a thermometer where I can see how much I need for that week and how much of it I have so far. Sort of like those thermometers they use for fundraising! And then I can add more in as I get the hang of planning ahead better.

In our time today, money plays a great role in our lives.. It is almost considered the most powerful! Why? With money, you can do what you wanted to do and you would even more become a famous one. Some says, money is evil.. I don?t believe on it. It is by the person how he handles up with his money.

You don't have to wait a few years. In fact, in China tradition, there is a moneygod. People usually pretend to be him and pass out lucky bag (with money in it) to other people in China New Year.

Money Matters but I dont run after money. I know, sometimes i spend money for nothing and regret later on but I know it happens with everyone. It might be due to my age.
We cannot avoid money but we should not forget that for waht we have been spending? and from where we have been getting. And the most important thing we should not be money minded!

To say money is not important is very naive in my opinion. Here in the U.S. without money life is extremely difficult. I'm not saying money is the key to happiness, but there is no doubt money can alleviate a lot of unnecessary stresses from a person's life. Whether we like it or not money matters, and as China moves more and more towards Capitalism its importance will grow in your society.

I agree that money is very important, but it is not everything to me. You can buy all material things by money, but money just can not buy love, age, happiness and so all.

Money is indeed very important. It has become the main requirement of surviving this world. Sure there are a lot more things important than money but we cannot have those thing for free.

Well, unfortunately money is a bit of a product of greater population in proportion to resources; now, before anything is said, I know that if we were to attempt to spread out available resources equally amongst the world population, the chance is very good that we would have enough to survive, at which point money might become pointless. However, with a constantly growing population, the time would eventually come where it would be physically impossible to support the human race as a whole, and so what would happen then?

Anywho, as for my importance on money, I admit the prospect of a shiny PS3 appeals to me, and (barring theft,) money is the only way I'll ever get one. Still, I tend to look at money as more a means to an end (PS3) than anything else. ^_^

You know this is a good question. To me money is very important but I run through it like water. I waste so much money a year its ridiculous. I have lost money due to forgetting to cancel accounts that I have signed up for. Or attempting to try new things as far as online businesses are concerned and never really going through with it. I think if I were to calculate how much money I have wasted over a years time, I would be pretty well off. I think this question has done nothing but made me angry Evil or Very Mad

I think it depends on how you look at money. Is it an object or not? Can you afford to throw twenty dollar bills in the wind? If you walk by something you really want, do you buy it with cash or credit?

But money isn't about the things you want, it's about necessity. Without it you would starve or live on the streets. So for someone to say that money isn't very important to them I would think they would have to re-evaluate their thinking.

Now, wasting money is a lack of appreciation for it. I think we should all share. We have enough to go around in this country to help someone out who is down. Weigh it out. A 500.00 hand bag or a surprise at the checkout counter for a needy family that they have been chosen to get their groceries paid for?

Do you appreciate money?

Of course money is important! As much as I would like to say it's not, the bill collectors keep telling me differently.

In an ideal world, I would work strictly per diem, take a week long vacation per month and have no bills!

Unfortunately, the bills keep coming so I have to keep working and the vacations are few and far between.

This is not to say that I think money is the most important thing in life -- but I definitely haven't found a way to live without it!

I find this so over-used. Let us be honest now.... what makes us happy? Let me just talk about a bit about some things that make me happy....

---- having good food on the table
---- sending my son to a good school
---- having a good roof above our heads
---- wearing good-quality clothes
---- having a gas tank that is at least half full
---- being able to watch a movie with reserved seating
---- etc etc.....

...tell me which of the above does not involve having money? Doesnt money, for a good part, buy us happiness?

I think money can bring you happiness, material happiness. Wouldnt it be wonderful if we could have the things we wanted, without having to worry about the money.
However I dont think having money and the material possesions brings emotional happiness, it cannot buy you true friends, trustworthy, reliable partners or family.

Unfortunately money is an important aspect of life, for me at the moment it pays the mortgage and puts food on the table. I still buy my lottery ticket every week too.

I buy my lottery ticket too, and keep hoping it will help to dig me out of the hole I'm in! It's frustrating, because my income should be enough to keep us afloat really easily, but because of debts from moving home, debts from paying off friends who helped us out, debts from months when I was unemployed and debts from repairing the car (it would have been cheaper in the last couple of years to buy a new car than to pay for these repairs!), we struggle to make ends meet.

There's a quote from someone I read that said, simply, that having expenses a penny less than your income was happiness; and that having expenses a penny more than your income was misery. There's a lot of truth in that, I think.

I waste a bit of money. I always try to save up but end up buying gifts for my friends or I spend it on other random things. Now with this said I do not waste all of my money. I still have about 8000 saved up in my bank account but it would be nice to have some more.

I think money is important, but it's not everything. I wouldn't do something that was against my principles just for the sake of making money. And I wouldn't save every penny I make just for the sake of saving. I work so I can have cash to do things that I enjoy. Which isn't to say that I'm irresponsible with money, but I want to have enough to easily take care of my responsibilites and have fun at the same time.
