Throughout the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it sometimes seems that many of us have forgotten the true meaning of the holiday. I admit, I get caught up in it all myself. Any ideas on how we can incorporate Jesus back into the holiday? There are a few ideas that I have come up with, but would like more. This year, we will be making a birthday cake for Jesus, and doing some volunteer work. My mother-in-law also has always given each child 3 gifts to symbolize the 3 wise men who brought gifts for baby Jesus. I think this is a wonderulf idea and hope to begin with it next year. Are there any other special traditions that your family has that helps to remind you of the birth of Jesus and his giving spirit, which you would be willing to share? Idea

I think about this same thing every year at this time. I think it's funny that we are not supposed to say "Merry Christmas" anymore because it excludes other religions. But the 25th has always been the day we celebrate Jesus's birth. Those that don't believe in Christ could always pick another day to celebrate giving gifts or call the 25th whatever they feel like calling it. But to ask that we as a Nation take Christ out of the holiday is absurd to me. This is why, I always spell the word out. I don't substitue the letter "X" for Christ.

An idea that I have been considering is having my children choose one gift that they received on Christmas to give to a less fortunate child. Through this they learn the true meaning of giving and sacrifice. We would all give if it didn't hurt at all. But the very nature of Christ's giving was through self sacrifice.

Every year, me and my church have a Christmas Program, to show the true meaning of Christmas. We also put a bunch of boxes, that are filled with food, to be donated to the hungry.
