Reading ebooks, reading at forums, and web pages all have opinions on where your advertising should be put for the best click throughs. There was even a big deal that came out on putting your ads in a certain place with a certain size box to get the most clickthroughs. Even though its a well intentioned help. They got one thing right and that is to blend it in the best you can. I have found from my personal experience blending your ads in with your site or forums gets the best clickthroughs! When you take the time to blend the background, the links colors, and images to made it to look like a part of your site you will see a much better return on your time. As for placement I have found that testing is your best method. Try different places on your site. You might be surprised that your best placement of an ad is not the one everyone else is saying is the best place!
