| I host my forum on proboards and so far I love it. The servers are usually always online which is rare for free hosted servers. The forum is already installed for you and you can change practically anything that you like. You can even put in your own avatars. The only drawback is the ads. |

| Proboard is what I used when I made my first forum and it is very good. I especially like the way the entire forum is customizable down to every minute detail. Changing the colour scheme, fonts, avatars and pictures to suit the type of forum you wish to have is very useful. |

Personally, I dislike proboards. I think that if done well, they can look good, but a lot of the time the boards look a horrible mess, and part of that is down to the general structure of proboards itself.
I prefer PHPBB based forums myself. |

| As far as the ads on proboards go, I haven't ever really even noticed them on my forums hosted there. If you have a good skin set up the ads really bend in nicely. I've used proboards for years, and although I've moved onto bigger and better fish, I still think they are a great company/forum platform. |

I had a forum on Proboards since 2005.
I think this forum is still online due to the great service.
The best point i found a great support from stuff. They make you feel that you pay for them and they must help you.
But Proboards still have a big problem because you can't have a backup of your boards. |

I don't know them, are they a bit safe and secure? _________________ Forum Booster for life.

Personally, I don't know enough about the various forum hosts to compare them, but I have created two forums and co-created another two forums with Proboards so here goes...
It was incredibly simple to get the site up and running. I think it took me 5-10 minutes to create my 2nd solo forum.
The skin/color scheme creator is mind-numbing. The first few skins take HOURS to create if you have no prior experience, but once you have a few go to schemes to fall back on it's not so bad.
The ads on my sites load so slowly or with so many errors that it takes forever to load the main page.
I'm not loving their idea of "Help". You go to their support forum, where you're expected to sift through hundreds of thousands of posts to find what you're looking for...but if you can't find it and have to post a question in a thread to them, you get warned for not posting a certain number of sentences in your post. Honestly, how many sentences does it take to ask, "Where can I find the code to add my custom smileys to the user smiley list?" (for example)
So, buyer beware and keep in mind you get what you pay for with free sites. If you're running a very simple forum then proboards at least has a user friendly admin panel.[/list] |
